New Year, New Decade

So 2009 is now been and gone, and 2010 ( or twenty ten as everyone is calling it now ) is upon us.

2009 was a busy year for us, what with seeing 2009 New Year in Big Apple style ( Not sure I ever posted any of my NYC shots. oops ), and Alex being born. I have to say, my photography, personal projects, got pushed out due to lack of time. But Christmas was fantastic, spending Alex’s first Christmas with him and my beautiful wife really was special.

I don’t do Resolutions as such, nobody ever really sticks to them, but I do set myself goals. So this year I have a few…

1. Shoot more – I love taking photos, and I’ve not done as much as I wanted over the last year. So this year I’m going to shoot more, much more. To aid this I bought myself a Panasonic GF-1 camera. It’s small, light, and since it has a decent sized sensor takes excellent photos. It goes everywhere with me.

2. Build my wedding business – Well that goes without saying. I’ve already got booked just as many weddings as I shot last year. That’s a good start but I’m going for more.

3. Spend lots of time with Becky and Alex – We’re already planning which BTCC rounds we can go to.

4. Be more organised – I’m not so good at being organised, so I want to sort that out, and make more use of my time.

5. Blog more – I don’t blog enough, but hopefully that will change. I’m working on a re-design of the site using the new ProPhoto V3 WordPress template which should be all sorted soon. Also I’ll be blogging Alex’s first Christmas very soon.

I think that will do for now, otherwise I’ll never meet all the targets.

Just as a last thought on this post. And they say a picture paints a thousand words so here goes…

Let it snow, let it snow, lets it snow

So I think we can safely say we had some snow

We found out Reading was pretty much gridlocked via facebook as we were in Leicester. The pets all locked up at home overnight got us worried as we weren’t sure whether we’d get back home the next day. But we set off in the morning after calling friends for a weather report. We got home safe and sound a couple of hours later after some hair-raising trips down the local roads.

The next day I walked into Woodley via Southlake to have a look at the snow. The lake was completely frozen. I felt sorry for the Heron staring into the ice wishing he could get his dinner.

Anyway I took my GF1 with me and took some photos around the lake.

Quite pleased with the results form the GF1, really very nice to be able to carry a camera everywhere with it being so small.

Shame is it’s raining now, so by the morning we probably wont have any snow

Yesterday we decided more photos of Alex were required. And they came out pretty well. He seemed to like sitting on the new fluffy throw I’ve bought for baby photos.

While his mum was out doing Orchestra stuff today I decided to get the camera out for another session of photos. Alex was in a smilie mood in his Jumperoo but as usual, the second the camera came out the smiles were no where to be seen. This time though we got this cheeky look…

OK so this is the second post in a row of photos of my son Alex. But hey what can I say we’re proud of him and want to show him off.

These have all been taken over the last couple of days so rather than post each a day I saved a few up. My favorite have to be the two of him asleep on the bed. I’ve just printed the B&W one to go on the wall. Just needs mounting.

Firstly let me say welcome to my new website

Secondly I’d like to confess I’ve been very lax in updating my blog of late. The main reason being this site. I’ve been working hard to update the blog software to the latest version and then use it as my main website from now on. My blog will be decommissioned and then this website becomes both my portfolio and my blog all in one. Hopefully this makes things easier for prospective clients to get a good idea of who I am, and at the same time see the images I’m taking.

I’ll try and keep the updates on here coming more frequently from now on

Goodbye 2008

So now things have all settled down after new year it’s time to look back at 2008 and see what can be learned from it. There’s a couple of things that spring to mind.

1 – Things change… Lots of things have changed in my life this last year. Some bad, but luckily lots of good things.

Work has been pretty tough for a while, I guess the lesson there is that not everyone likes me LOL. I guess not everyone likes that I say what I think, and stand up for what I believe. But hey that’s me, and I’m not intending to change that any time soon.

The housing market has been a bit of a downer, especially since we found almost the perfect house ( with enough room for me to have a studio ) but that’s something everyone is dealing with.

Finding out I’m going to be a father… Well that was a bit of a shock. But a good one once I’d had time to take it in. That’s a big change alright, but hey it’s something new.

2 – I guess the big thing I learned is I love shooting weddings! I’ve never really been a people photographer until last year, but I’ve discovered I love doing it. So much that I now quite proudly tell people I’m a wedding photographer, something I never expected to do. This was helped in no small part by the great couples I’ve shot for this last year. So big thanks to all of my clients as without you I wouldn’t be so into making this business take off. And that’s what I’m really wanting to do now.

So I really feel that 2009 is going to be a great year, both with the photography, and becoming a dad. I reserve the right to change my mind on that one though when I’m suffering sleepless nights due to a screaming baby.

Ok so it’s 8am new years eve here and for the first morning we’re not looking out to a sunrise. It’s looking cloudy, and the weather report says it’s going to get very cold and probably snow today

Yesterday we went up the Empire State building. That was great as the weather was fantastic and the view was breath taking.

So today we’re off on a movie tour of NY and then getting ready for the new years eve party at TGI Fridays.

Well we’ve been here in NYC for a day now and used the tourist busses to get around and see as much as possible in a day.
We’re only a couple of blocks from Times Square and the place is rammed every day.
Virgin holidays hooked us up with a VIP pass to Planet Hollywood so no waiting for a table yesterday.
The first impressions so far are that the place is crazy busy and that the streets really do smell bad at times.
